The Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, chaired by Attorney General Eric Holder, held its January quarterly meeting in Washington, DC. An independent body within the executive branch of the federal government, the Council works to improve the coordination of federally funded youth programs. The Council's Vice-Chair, Jeff Slowikowski, OJJDP's Acting Administrator, described the meeting in his recent message on DOJ's Justice Blog. During the meeting the council unanimously approved its 2010 work plan and identified priority issues for interagency collaboration. More icon


 February Is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month
On January 28, Associate Attorney General Tom Perrelli joined sponsors of Senate Resolution 373 to announce its unanimous passage. The resolution designates February 2010 as "National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month." "The Department [of Justice] will use the month of February to raise awareness regarding teen dating violence and to provide opportunities for schools and communities to protect young people," Associate Attorney General Perrelli declared in his remarks. Bulletin Reports Declining Juvenile Arrests in 2008

"Juvenile Arrests 2008," the latest bulletin this annual OJJDP series, summarizes data from local law enforcement agencies cited in the FBI report "Crime in the United States 2008." There were 3 percent fewer juvenile arrests in 2008 than in 2007 and juvenile violent crime arrests fell 2 percent, continuing the recent decline. More icon
