Program Objective:

To strengthen literacy, citizenship skills, and self-esteem among at-risk children and young adults, senior citizens, and other marginalized populations in inner-city neighborhoods.

Program Description:

WritersCorps is a literary community service initiative that places volunteer writers at community sites to teach the literary arts through classes, workshops, public reading and publication projects, and other programs. In its three years, the program has supported 183 writers serving a total of 10,030 inner-city residents of all ages at 213 community organizations' host sites.

Sites:

Project sites are located in San Francisco, CA, the Bronx, NY, and Washington, DC.
