Q: Where in the United States do juvenile homicides occur?
A: About 1 in 5 reported murders of juveniles in 2006 occurred in just 5 of the Nation's more than 3,000 counties.

  • The major cities in these five counties (beginning with the city in the county with the most murdered juveniles) are Los Angeles, Houston, New York, Chicago, and Phildelphia. Note that no data were reported for Florida and the District of Columbia and many of the individual counties in other States underreported.
  • In 2006, 87% of the 3,141 counties in the U.S. had no reported murders of juveniles, 7% had one, and 6% had two or more.
